Most of you know that I am a fan of the Final Fantasy series and RPGs in general, and so I was surprised when I saw that this game was available on the AppStore today. At quick glance, it looked like a fun trip through nostalgia, and that’s something fans of the series can get behind. Yet, some quick digging online revealed that it is an expensive action-RPG trip through an abridged version of the franchise, and in order to enjoy the entire experience it is going to cost the purchaser a total of $50.00 USD once in-app purchases are factored in.
Really, Square-Enix?
I was willing to spend the $19.99 to purchase the full version of “Final Fantasy Dimensions” on Android because that is a good game, but I really cannot see myself spending two-and-a-half times that money on this one. Sorry, SE, it just ain’t happenin’.

Final Fantasy died for me after 11. I’m not surprised it takes going back to the “basics” is the most effective way for them to cash in on the IP.
If you have an Android device, I think FF Dimensions is worth taking a look at, if nothing else then because they really went back to the roots and made a game which reminds me of FF5, which is a good thing. But, other than that, I’d agree that the company, much like Capcom, has put out a lot of crap here in the recent decade.
On top of that, it looks like the gameplay blows as well: http://www.ign.com/videos/2013/01/17/psa-dont-buy-final-fantasy-all-the-bravest
I just watched that, and I totally agree. Not only is the price tag expensive to unlock all the stuff in the game, but it’s crazy that you can pay even more money just to revive your party. That makes the challenge of any battle moot, but worse yet is the fact that there really is no battle, it’s all automated.
It makes me wonder how they can put a good title like FF Dimensions out and yet drop the ball so terribly with this one…Yikes!
I like the idea of a game that is just battles where you can unlock different people in the FF universe. But the way this is implemented isn’t something I want to..um…play.
Unfortunately, Square Enix is very good at this type of thing. Doing something great on one hand and then screwing up something great on the other.
Yeah, lately a lot of their games are either really good or terribly bad. I like Dimensions and like how retro it feels and how it tells a good story, but a lot of their other half-rate stuff has stunk here in the last couple of years. I do though like Chaos Rings, but then again, that isn’t FF.
I’ll get Chaos Rings when I get a tablet. I’m seriously considering getting a Nexus 7.
I may get a Nexus 7 too sometime, or maybe even a 9 or 10, or whatever the bigger version is.
Well – I’m getting a galaxy note II first I’m going to see if the 5.5 inch screen is big enough for me. If it is, I’ll get a tablet with a 10 inch screen instead of the 7 with a 7 inch one.
