The Dragon Festival is in full-swing in “Guild Wars 2″ and so far it has been a lot of fun to take part in.  The festival itself seems to be in celebration of the death of Zhaitan, which in its own ways shows that the official story in the game is moving forward past the “end” of the personal storyline.  There is a lot of speculation, in fact, as to what may be coming next, and it would make sense if the festival and the story events that immediately follow it are some sort of “lead in” to future content expansion from the game (be that free or in some future paid expansion).

Meanwhile, the festival itself is here to enjoy and there are plenty of achievements that you can earn while having fun.  If you hang around in Lion’s Arch, you’ll see plenty of pinatas to smash, fireworks you can launch, a moa race you can bet on and win a fair bit of money, holographic projections of monsters in various zones that you can kill for special loot, and as of today, June 18, they have begun introduction special instanced content (today’s being the lighting of the pyre in the city and some chaos that ensues). There are a bunch of neat items that you can earn, and all-in-all I’ve really been having fun with it.

The other day, though, I read a comment online where the poster said that he wasn’t a big fan of what he called the “achievement grind.”  I admit, he did have a valid point.  In GW2 there are plenty of things you can work on once you reach level 80, including WvW and PvP achievements and titles, getting into the very high-level fractals for extremely rare drops, and, of course, working on your achievements.  Oh, and naturally there is gear that you can work on getting, especially now that there are multiple ways to get Ascended tier accessory pieces.  But, one thing that comes to mind is that you don’t have to get any of these achievements.  It is up to you whether you want to get the costume pieces or any titles associated with these special in-game events, so personally I don’t see what all the fuss is about.

The fuss over Ascended gear, though, is another matter, although personally I’ve accepted it as something to work towards getting on various characters and haven’t let it bother me that much.

So, what about you guys?  Are any of you playing GW2 and enjoying the current in-game festivities?

This is the second part of our adventures in Southsun Cove, recorded live on the evening of June 9-10, 2013!

This time around, we really buckle down and come up with a list of the things we need to do to get all the major achievements out in Southsun Cove, thus getting us the “Southsun Stalwart” title as well as the two special back-armor pieces you get for completing it all. And, it’s all in good time as this arc of the story ended on June 11, and all-in-all we managed to get it done in about three-and-a-half hours!

Massively, known across the web for its coverage of all-things MMORPG, is looking for a brand-new weekly columnist to write about “Guild Wars 2!”

As a new member of their team, this writer will be expected to write one article every week ranging from between 1,000 and 1,500 words, featuring link-backs to other relevant Massively posts, screenshots that they created themselves, and other engaging media.  This will likely fall between news coverage (what’s new in the world of Tyria), talk about development of new content from the game, community news, or personal experiences.  While no promises are made, many writers for the site end up getting paid to cover more general news stories and even to do some live-streaming content, so while you may start with covering a single game, there is hope for eventual expansion.

A little birdie, who shall remain nameless, told me that you can expect to start at a rate of $50.00 per article that you write, though this may increase a little over time as well as expand into some of the aforementioned possibilities.

If you are interested, check out their official post right here, and keep in mind that the deadline to apply is 11:59PM Eastern on June 21, 2013.

The ‘Tyrian Adventures’ series continues with a live episode from June 7-8, 2013 featuring special guest Jeremy Stratton!

For this episode, Aristeia, Jeremy, and I chat while we explore Southsun Cove for the very first time. I had been wanting to visit this area, but was too busy lately, yet the game’s Living Story encouraged me to want to do this area some before it ended. I have to admit, it’s a pretty challenging zone, and though we originally intended to finish it in a night or so, it obviously will take at least another session or two in order to complete the accomplishments to get the title and Ascended back-piece.

But, at least I did manage to defeat Canach this time around!

Tonight, the Tyrian Adventures vidcast will be returning with a live episode focusing on the new content out in the Southsun Cove explorable area!

Starting at 9:15PM Pacific, you can join Aristeia and me as we explore the island, take part in the story content there, and see what all we can get into.  As this current part of the story ends next Tuesday, if we are unable to finish it in one night we will resume later on in the weekend to finish out the content.  And, if you currently play “Guild Wars 2″ and are online at this time and want to join us as we run around, feel free!  I can even give you the required info if you want to join in on the show!

To view the stream (and “follow” if you don’t yet!), head right here and have some fun!

This is it, the end of Season 3 of the podcast! o.O

To mark the end of this season, this final episode is split into two parts. In the first part, I discuss the PlayStation 4, the XBox One, and some of the hubbub surrounding those devices, including the privacy concerns with the “always on” functionality of the upcoming Microsoft console. Then, I talk about the debacle with Neverwinter Online, my continued enjoyment of Guild Wars 2, and my potential interest in WildStar.

In the second half, I discuss some possibilities for Season 4 of the podcast, talk about my LandStalker streams and some upcoming Retro Play Show videos (Sonic the Hedgehog, Rockman & Forte, and Crystalis, to name a few), and my desire to play the Black Isle games in a series of streams.

This is a hilarious “Guild Wars 2″ parody music video that was pointed out to me by Aristeia last night.  I love how they carefully adopted the lyrics to fit with Taylor Swift’s song “Trouble” and how much fun they had with this jumping puzzle.

It’s definitely worth a watch and possibly a subscribe!

It’s time for the second episode already?

Because we felt bad that we couldn’t beat him last time around, Aristeia, Yoritus (@GavinTownsley), and myself return to the “Super Adventure Box” to revisit World 1-3 and have another go at the Frog King. This time, however, we come prepared with the knowledge of how to defeat him.

What do we get for beating him?

We get some nifty treasure, a new heart (extra health = yay!), and another challenging area to explore. In fact, the whitewater-filled canyon level and the ensuing river rafting experience is really, REALLY fun!

Stay tuned for more Tyrian fun and entertaining guests in Episode 3!

The podcast continues with Rob Eubank (@master_dex) joining me as the guest co-host as we tackle a rather large topic from today’s world: Marriage Equality.

The initial genesis for this subject came from Orson Scott Card being raked across the coals by some of his (ex) fans because of his rather strong convictions against gay rights and gay marriage, even going so far as to say that a constitution that supports such things is a weak one. While we do state our opinions on this topic, the real meat comes in whether an author should be held accountable for his personal beliefs, especially when his work doesn’t overtly reflect these things in any way.

And naturally, we discuss same-sex relationships from some modern TV shows and video games, among other things.

Oh, and we also mention a little thing about, you know, the LucasArts closure.

The first episode of the new “Tyrian Adventures” vidcast series is here!

“Tyrian Adventures” is a new series run by Allahweh’s Domain in which the focus is on documenting my fun in “Guild Wars 2″ while bringing entertaining, interactive content to both the players (my guests) and you, the viewers. I will, often with the help of Aristeia, host various events that are open to the public where we will scour dungeons, scale jumping puzzles, enter the fray in World vs. World, and much more while offering unique challenges and awesome prizes. The goal is to do something different each episode while having fun with and getting to know various players (both new and recurring).

Think in terms of a podcast crossed with gameplay crossed with gameshow elements!

In this introductory episode, Aristeia and I host a romp through the new “Super Adventure Box” in Rata Sum. We are joined by Jeremy Stratton (@jeremy_stratton), Oakstout, and Yogitus (@GavinTownsley) and the challenge this time around is to be the last person to get a “game over.” The prize? Each person donates 50 silver and so the winner gets 2 gold and 50 silver as the reward.

Things are a bit hectic in places here due to the nature of this level, so if you think things are chaotic, in this area that is part of the fun! Other challenges will likely be a bit less so. In future episodes, we’ll likely try to interact with the guests a bit more before and after the video and thus focus on “hosting” more, but this video was long and so it was necessary to just press onward.

Fun times!
